Meet Our Leadership Team
- Andy SwartzChief Executive OfficerMeet Andy SwartzAndy SwartzChief Executive Officer
Chief Executive Officer Andy Swartz provides strategic direction and vision for Shipment Trackers. Andy admits he’s had only two jobs in his life: making pizza and working in logistics and transportation. While he’s not baking dough at Shipment Trackers, he does help clients find the dough (the money) to reduce their transportation spend.
Before creating Shipment Trackers in 1999, Andy worked for FedEx for more than a decade and occupied various roles for the carrier including package handler, shift supervisor, sales executive, and terminal manager. He applied firsthand knowledge of logistics and shipping operations, policies, and practices to the organization of Shipment Trackers and its pioneering work in the service audit industry. With his business partner Steve Schaffer, Andy has guided the company’s development and growth over the past 21 years. Under Andy’s leadership, Shipment Trackers was one of the first organizations to create and market small package service audits.
“Transportation and logistics work is complex,” Andy explains, “but it is satisfying work to make it simple for our clients. All they need to do is say ‘help me,’ and we’ll go to work for them. We appreciate a challenge, and we enjoy helping our clients find the money.”
When he’s not at work, you’ll find Andy enjoying food and wine, traveling, fishing, working on cars, watching for raptors, and cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles—and all Philly teams for that matter.
- Steve SchafferChief Operating OfficerMeet Steve Schaffer
From delivering packages to overseeing a shipping distribution center, Steve Schaffer’s 30-plus year depth of experience with the transportation logistics and small parcel industries gives him the resources needed to find the money for his Shipment Trackers clients each day.
After graduating from York College of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in business management, Steve began his career in 1989 with small parcels. He served as a package handler for RPS (Roadway Package System), which later became FedEx Ground. Over the next 12 years, Steve’s responsibilities transitioned from line-haul dispatcher and air coordinator to sort operations and terminal manager. In his role as terminal manager, Steve managed the growth and development of FedEx Ground’s sales efforts and serving clients while acquiring knowledge of hub and terminal operations. You can bet that Steve even delivered his fair share of packages during his time!
In 2000, Steve joined Exel Logistics as a general manager, overseeing a distribution center for Johnson and Johnson that was the largest of three U.S.-based distribution centers responsible for warehousing and shipping consumer products. In 2002, Steve accepted a position at Watkins Motor Lines (which was ultimately purchased by FedEx in 2006), where he learned the LTL industry. At Watkins Motor Lines, Steve managed inbound and outbound dock operations, load quality controls, adherence to cutoff times for service, and employee development.
In 2004, Andy Swartz invited Steve to join Shipment Trackers, the company he founded in 1999, as its director of national accounts. From 2004 until 2017, when he assumed responsibilities as COO, Steve and the Shipment Trackers team helped grow the company’s client base from 10 clients to hundreds of clients nationwide.
“We have an awesome team at Shipment Trackers. It is our mission and passion to reduce costs for our clients. Our revenue is derived from the savings we provide. We do not make our clients sign contracts, locking them into a service that is not good for their business. Instead, we aim to meet and exceed our clients’ needs,” Steve says. “I enjoy collaborating with our clients and our team to customize a solution to meet their needs. We pride ourselves on being flexible. Many clients do not realize the costs savings that exist within their transportation budget. It is always gratifying to work together to find the money for them.”
Outside the office, Steve dedicates time to his family, including Tori, his wife of 19 years; his 13-year-old daughter Olivia; and the family’s two bulldogs, Oscar and Otis. Both he and Tori are part owners of a company that buys, rehabs, and sell properties. An avid NFL fan, Steve can’t resist joining several fantasy football leagues every year. When he’s not watching football (either the fantasy or reality types), you’ll find him working out or playing basketball and racquetball.
