The Return of UPS & FedEx Refunds: Everything You Need to Know

It is no secret the COVID-19 pandemic caused backups and late deliveries for many small package carriers, including UPS and FedEx. During this time, both UPS and FedEx suspended their guaranteed service refunds as the shipping industry became overwhelmed and could not promise specific delivery dates and times. However, UPS refunds and FedEx refunds have returned, and the Shipment Trackers team is here to outline everything you need to know about uncovering business shipping refunds!

UPS Refunds
After being suspended for over a year, on April 5, 2021, UPS announced they would be reinstating their service guarantee refund for select services, including:

  • UPS Next Day Air® Early
  • UPS Next Day Air®
  • UPS Next Day Air Saver®
  • UPS Worldwide Express NA1®
  • UPS Worldwide Express Plus®
  • UPS Worldwide Express®
  • UPS Worldwide Express Saver®
  • UPS Worldwide Saver
  • UPS Worldwide Express Freight® Midday
  • UPS Worldwide Express Freight®

Currently, all other UPS shipping services are not eligible for a service guarantee refund.

FedEx Refunds
On April 6, 2021, FedEx announced they would be reinstating their FedEx money-back guarantee for select services, including:

  • FedEx First Overnight®
  • FedEx Priority Overnight®
  • FedEx Standard Overnight®
  • FedEx International First®
  • FedEx International Priority®
  • FedEx International Priority® Freight

Currently, all other FedEx shipping services are not eligible for a money-back guarantee.

What Does the Return of Shipping Refunds Mean for You?
As a business using one or both services, you may be eligible for a UPS refund or FedEx refund if your package is delivered late (even if it just by a few seconds!). While your carrier may be committed to operating at their best, nobody is perfect, and deliveries will be late occasionally. In fact, small package carriers fail to meet their commitment to you (and your customers) 3 to 4 percent of the time. Therefore, auditing your UPS and/or FedEx invoice (and recovering savings) is key to capitalizing on both UPS refunds on late delivery and FedEx refunds on late delivery.
